JURY PROCESS
MIAMI-DADE LAW JURY PROCESS
A jury consists of a body of people that are sworn to render an impartial verdict
in a criminal court case.
In Florida a jury is made up of a cross section of the general
public consisting of 6 people.
The United States supreme court ruled that in Florida
a jury of 6 is sufficient in Williams v. Florida, 399 U.S. 78 (1970) were in other
countries such as Scotland a jury consists of 15 people.
The responsibility of a jury
is to be a finder of fact where the proceeding judge has the sole responsibility
as interpreter of the law and to guide the jury accordingly in regards to the law
only.
During trial it is common that members of the jury are often instructed to avoid
learning about the case other than what is presented at trial.
That what has ben stated
and or currently being stated by the press be ignored.
That a jury is not to attempt
to conduct an investigation on their own.
Jurors deliberation about the case must
be kept amongst themselves.
In non legal definition 6 people hear what is told and
decide if a defendant is guilty or not while adhering to the rules of the court.
How
your lawyer speaks on your behalf to the jury at trial is of significant importance
representing you.
If your case even gets this far “NOT GUILTY” would be the only words
you would want to hear.
